PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is the Central scheme that pays eligible farmer families Rs 6,000 a year, in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each, directly into their bank accounts. This guide explains who qualifies, who does not, and how to check your beneficiary status and payment history on the official portal, pmkisan.gov.in.
As of September 2026, the latest instalment is the 23rd, which the portal says was released on June 20, 2026, from Tarakeswar in Hooghly district, West Bengal.
Who is eligible for PM Kisan
The scheme is meant for landholding farmer families whose names are in the land records of their state or Union Territory. In the scheme's rules, a farmer family means the husband, wife and their minor children.
To receive money, a farmer must:
- be registered on the PM-KISAN portal, through the state government or self-registration;
- have land records verified by the state;
- have a bank account linked with Aadhaar; and
- have completed eKYC, which the portal describes as mandatory.
Who is not eligible (exclusion list)
Even if you own farmland, you cannot get PM Kisan if you, or a member of your family, falls in any of these groups listed on the official portal:
- Institutional landholders, such as trusts and companies.
- Present and former holders of constitutional posts, ministers, and members of Parliament and state legislatures.
- Serving or retired officers and employees of Central or state governments, public sector enterprises and government autonomous bodies. Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D employees are not excluded.
- Retired pensioners whose monthly pension is Rs 10,000 or more, again except Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D.
- People who paid income tax in the last assessment year.
- Registered professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects.
The portal also says that benefits have been temporarily withheld in suspected cases until physical verification is done. It names two such cases: land acquired after February 1, 2019, and more than one member of the same family receiving the benefit.
How to check PM Kisan beneficiary status
The Know Your Status page shows whether you are an active beneficiary and the details of each payment.
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in and open Farmers Corner.
- Click Know Your Status.
- Enter your registration number.
- Type the captcha shown on screen.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- The page shows your details, instalment-wise payment status, bank name, payment mode, the date money was credited, the UTR (bank transaction) number, and your eKYC status for each financial year.
If a payment shows as credited but you cannot see it, share the UTR number with your bank. It is the reference the bank uses to trace the transfer.
How to find your PM Kisan registration number
If you do not know your registration number:
- On pmkisan.gov.in, open Know Your Registration No. (also linked from the status page).
- Choose to search by mobile number or Aadhaar number.
- Enter the number and the captcha, and submit.
- Note the registration number shown and keep it safe for future status checks.
How to complete PM Kisan eKYC
Registered farmers can complete eKYC in these ways:
- Face authentication in the PM-KISAN mobile app. The Ministry of Agriculture added this option so farmers can finish eKYC at home by scanning their face, without an OTP or fingerprint.
- Biometric eKYC at a Common Service Centre (CSC), through the PM-KISAN app, or through state-authorised officials. The portal lists these as available options.
If you have also been asked to finish eKYC for your ration card, see our state-wise ration card eKYC list. That is a separate process from PM Kisan eKYC.
Why a PM Kisan instalment may not arrive
If your status page shows a problem, these are the usual causes and what to do:
| Problem shown or suspected | What to do |
|---|---|
| eKYC not done | Complete eKYC through the app (face authentication) or at a CSC |
| Bank account not linked to Aadhaar | Ask your bank to link (seed) Aadhaar to the account and enable it for direct benefit transfers |
| Land records not verified | Contact your village revenue office or block agriculture office |
| Held for physical verification | Wait for the state's verification. If you think your case was wrongly flagged, contact the block or district agriculture office |
| Wrong name or details | Use the edit option under Farmers Corner, or ask the state nodal officer to correct it |
Other services on the portal
Farmers Corner on pmkisan.gov.in also lets you:
- register as a new farmer;
- update your mobile number;
- edit a self-registration;
- make an online refund of wrongly received money;
- voluntarily surrender the benefit;
- raise a query through the Helpdesk; and
- search for your point of contact in the state or district.
Stay safe from fake PM Kisan messages
Use only pmkisan.gov.in and the official PM-KISAN app. Do not share your OTP, Aadhaar number or bank details with anyone who calls or messages you promising to "release" an instalment. Checking your status on the official portal needs only your registration number and an OTP sent to your own phone.
