The FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicles has crossed one crore passes issued, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a release on September 28, 2026. The pass was launched on August 15, 2025, so the milestone has come in a little over 13 months.

The ministry said the numbers show that private vehicle owners are accepting the pass as a cheaper and simpler way to pay tolls on National Highways and National Expressways.

Key points

  • Passes issued: over 1 crore since August 15, 2025.
  • Fee: Rs 3,075, paid once (revised from Rs 3,000 with effect from April 1, 2026).
  • Validity: one year or 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever comes first.
  • Where it works: about 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways.
  • Who can use it: all non-commercial vehicles that have a valid FASTag.

How fast adoption grew

When the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced the fee revision on March 15, 2026, it said the pass had more than 56 lakh users. The latest figure of one crore means the user base has nearly doubled in about six months.

What it costs per trip

At Rs 3,075 for 200 crossings, a user who uses up the full quota pays about Rs 15.40 per toll plaza crossing. How much a person actually saves depends on the regular toll rates on the plazas they use and how many of the 200 crossings they complete within the year.

The fee is revised each financial year under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. The Rs 3,075 rate applies to the financial year 2026-27.

How to get the pass

  1. Make sure your car, jeep or van already has a valid FASTag that is linked to the vehicle.
  2. Open the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website and choose the Annual Pass option.
  3. Pay the one-time fee of Rs 3,075.
  4. The pass is activated on your existing FASTag. NHAI's March release said this happens within two hours of payment.

You do not need a new FASTag. The pass sits on the tag you already have, so you do not have to keep recharging it for the plazas the pass covers.

Things to keep in mind

  • The pass is only for non-commercial vehicles. Taxis, trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles cannot use it.
  • It covers fee plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. Toll roads run by state governments or other bodies may charge separately, so keep your regular FASTag balance topped up.
  • Once 200 crossings are used, or one year passes, the pass ends and you need to buy a new one.

What happens next

The ministry did not announce any change to the pass rules along with the milestone. Any fee change for the next financial year would normally be announced before April 1, 2027, as was done this year.
