Indian Railways has announced 3,548 graduate-level vacancies under the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC-Graduate) recruitment, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on 11 October 2026. The posts are being filled through Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 06/2026 issued by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). Online applications opened on 8 October 2026 and can be submitted until 11:59 PM on 6 November 2026.

The notification covers four categories of posts. Goods Train Manager accounts for more than three-fourths of the total.

Important dates
- Applications opened: 8 October 2026
- Last date to apply online: 6 November 2026, 11:59 PM
- Last date to pay the examination fee: 8 November 2026
- Window to modify the application: 9 November to 18 November 2026
Who can apply
Candidates need a degree from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification, and must meet the conditions set for the specific post they choose. The notified age limit is 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027. Age relaxation applies to eligible categories under the rules, and the usual reservation benefits are part of the recruitment.
The ministry's statement does not list the examination fee amounts. It says the notification has fee refund provisions for eligible candidates, so applicants should read the fee section of CEN No. 06/2026 before paying.
How the selection works
Selection is in stages:
- First-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Second-stage CBT
- Document verification
- Medical examination, as applicable
The ministry said selection will be on merit and on meeting the eligibility conditions. Candidates with disabilities who qualify under the rules get scribe assistance and compensatory time.
No typing skill test this time
One change in CEN No. 06/2026 is that the Computer-Based Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with for the two typist posts - Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist. According to the statement, candidates are still expected to have basic computer and typing proficiency, which will be assessed after they join.
Where to apply
The Ministry of Railways named two official websites:
- Detailed notification, vacancy distribution and updates: rrb.indianrailways.gov.in
- Online application portal: rrbapply.gov.in
The ministry advised candidates to rely only on these platforms for recruitment information.
What it means for you
- Any graduate aged 18 to 33 on 1 January 2027 can check the post-wise conditions and apply; the age limit is higher for categories that get relaxation.
- The application deadline (6 November) and the fee deadline (8 November) are different dates. An application without the fee is not complete.
- Mistakes in the form can be corrected only between 9 and 18 November.
- Railway Board-wise and category-wise vacancy numbers are in the detailed notification, not in the ministry's statement. Check them before choosing an RRB.
